Professional Experience

Technology Specialist, University of North Dakota TRIO Programs, Grand Forks, ND - Present.  Responsible for technology systems and needs for five TRIO Programs (Educational Opportunity Center, Educational Talent Search, Ronald E. McNair Post baccalaureate Program, Student Support Services and Upward Bound) including staff computers, servers, etc; Responsible for database management for four TRIO Programs; Responsible for coordinating and designing publications for five TRIO Programs, and maintaining websites; Responsible for ordering new hardware, software for the UND TRIO Programs;

Responsible for assisting in formatting the Federal Grants for the UND TRIO Programs; Responsible for creating presentations and training for staff and students in regards to technology. Computer instructor for Upward Bound Summer program; Advisor to both students and staff on technology needs, programs, and skills related to academic success. Required to be familiar with the Federal guidelines and documentation of the TRIO Programs.

Web consultant, private business, May 2007 – Present. Redesigned website for University of North Dakota, Instructional Design and Technology department. Created website, blog and database for University of North Dakota National Scholarships department. Created website and acted as web consultant for several private businesses and websites.

Computer Instructor, North Dakota State University, Veterans Upward Bound, Grand Forks, ND - May 2006 – July 2008.  Responsible for teaching U.S. Veterans computer skills necessary to enter college or the workforce. Responsible for reporting on the progress of the students. Created individualized lesson plans based on a needs assessment survey provided to each student. Worked with each student individually to accomplish goals and simple tasks in order to gain access to the workplace or continue their education.

Editor, The Exponent, East Grand Forks, MN, May 1999 – May 2004.  Responsible for managing and producing a weekly newspaper. Writing stories, photography, public relations, website manager, designing ads. Hired as a copy editor, promoted to editor in 2002.

Photojournalist, Faribault County Register, Blue Earth, MN,  May 1998 - February 1999. Responsible for producing all of the pictures for the newspaper, writing feature stories about people, businesses, etc., and news stories including sports. Responsible for maintaining the website for the newspaper.

Sports desk, The Forum, Fargo ND, September 1996 - May 1997. Wrote local stories using specialized software on IBM computers for a large regional newspaper.

Internships

Instructional Designer for UND Continuing Education, May – August 2006.
Created and formatted instructional web pages using HTML and Blackboard for Continuing Education Department. Started as an intern for a Masters Program requirement and hired part-time to assist the department.

Reporter/Photographer, Morrison County Record, Little Falls, MN.                                    
Wrote news stories and features on local events, and had experience with design and layout of the paper. Hired as an intern in the spring of 1996 and re-hired for a part-time position for the summer of 1997.
